Fat Freezing, also known as Cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical body contouring treatment designed to reduce localised fat deposits that may be resistant to diet and exercise.
The treatment works by applying controlled cooling to targeted areas of fat. Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than surrounding tissue. When exposed to precise temperatures, they crystallise and gradually break down. Over the following weeks, the body naturally eliminates these treated fat cells through the lymphatic system.
Fat freezing is ideal for reshaping and refining body contours rather than overall weight loss.
Fat freezing is commonly used to treat stubborn fat in areas such as:
• Abdomen
• Flanks (love handles)
• Thighs
• Upper arms
• Back
• Under the buttocks
It is suitable for individuals close to their target weight who are looking to contour specific areas.
A specialist applicator is placed onto the treatment area. Gentle suction draws the tissue into the applicator while controlled cooling is delivered directly to the fat layer.
The process:
• Targets and crystallises fat cells
• Leaves surrounding tissue unharmed
• Triggers gradual fat reduction
Each session typically lasts around 40 minutes per area.
Results develop gradually over several weeks as the body processes and eliminates the treated fat cells.
Clients often notice:
• Improved body contour
• Reduction in stubborn fat pockets
• A smoother, more refined shape
Depending on the area treated and your individual goals, more than one session may be recommended. Maintaining a balanced lifestyle supports long-term results.
Your treatment begins with a full consultation to assess suitability and discuss your desired outcome.
During the procedure:
• The treatment area is measured and marked
• A protective membrane is applied
• The applicator is positioned and suction begins
• Controlled cooling is delivered for the duration of the session
• The area may be gently massaged after treatment
You may feel intense cold during the first few minutes, which typically subsides as the area becomes numb.
There is minimal downtime, and most clients return to normal daily activities immediately.

Fat Freeze (cryolipolysis) works by exposing targeted fat cells to controlled cooling. The cold temperature causes the fat cells to undergo a natural process called apoptosis (programmed cell death), which triggers a mild inflammatory response within the body.
This inflammatory response is a normal and essential part of the treatment process. Over the following weeks and months, specialised immune cells called macrophages gradually identify, break down and remove the damaged fat cells through the body's natural lymphatic system. This process occurs slowly and safely, which is why results develop progressively rather than immediately.
Because the body is actively clearing the treated fat cells, some clients may experience temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, numbness or mild bruising following treatment. These effects are expected and typically resolve within a few days to weeks.
Supporting your body's natural inflammatory and lymphatic processes by staying well hydrated, following a balanced calorie-controlled diet and maintaining regular exercise can help optimise your body contouring results. Most clients begin to notice improvements after several weeks, with full results becoming visible over approximately 8–12 weeks.

Following your Cryolipolysis (Fat Freeze) treatment, it is important to care for your body correctly to maximise your results and support your body's natural fat elimination process. It is normal to experience some temporary side effects following treatment, including: Redness in the treated area. Mild swelling. Tenderness or sensitivity. Temporary bruising. Numbness or tingling. A firm or slightly swollen feeling beneath the skin. Mild aching or cramping, similar to the feeling after an intense workout. These reactions are expected and usually settle over the following few days to several weeks. Temporary numbness can occasionally last for a few weeks as the nerves recover. To support your recovery and enhance your results: Drink plenty of water to help support your body's natural lymphatic system. Return to your normal daily activities if you feel comfortable, as there is little to no downtime. Continue eating a healthy, balanced diet. Avoid touching or excessively rubbing the treated area unless instructed by your practitioner. For the first 24–48 hours: Drink at least 2 litres of water per day to support fat metabolism and hydration. Avoid excessive alcohol, as it may slow your body's natural elimination processes. Limit caffeine if possible and continue to stay well hydrated. Avoid hot baths, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms if the treated area feels tender. Wear loose, comfortable clothing if the area feels sensitive. For the following few weeks: Maintain a healthy, balanced diet to help optimise your results. Continue regular physical activity and exercise. Avoid significant weight gain, as this may reduce the overall effectiveness of your treatment. Continue drinking plenty of water each day. Attend any recommended review appointments. Cryolipolysis permanently destroys targeted fat cells, which are then naturally removed by your body's lymphatic system over the following weeks. Most clients begin to notice improvements within 4–6 weeks, with optimal results typically visible after 8–12 weeks. Depending on the area being treated and your desired outcome, additional treatments may be recommended. Cryolipolysis is designed to reduce stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. To maximise and maintain your results: Maintain a healthy, balanced diet. Exercise regularly. Stay well hydrated. Maintain a stable body weight. Follow your personalised treatment plan as recommended by your practitioner. Please contact Body Perfection Clinic if you have any concerns about your healing or experience: Severe or worsening redness lasting longer than 72 hours. Excessive swelling or increasing pain. Blistering. Delayed healing. Any unexpected or concerning reaction following your treatment. If you think you have developed an infection (such as increasing redness, excessive heat, pus, discharge or fever), or you feel generally unwell, please seek immediate medical advice from your GP, NHS 111 or your nearest emergency department if your symptoms are severe. Your practitioner will be happy to advise you and arrange a review appointment if required.
