The area should be clean, freshly shaved and free from makeup, moisturisers, fake tan, deodorant, perfume or other skincare products, depending on the area being treated. It is normal to experience some temporary side effects following treatment, including: Mild redness around the hair follicles, slight warmth or sensitivity, similar to mild sunburn, mild swelling of the treated area, a tingling sensation. These reactions are temporary and usually settle within a few hours, although some clients may experience mild sensitivity for up to 48 hours. Over the following 1–3 weeks, treated hairs will gradually shed from the follicles. This is a normal part of the treatment process and should not be mistaken for new hair growth. To protect your skin and promote healing: Apply 100% Aloe Vera Gel if the treated area feels warm or sensitive, keep the skin clean and well moisturised using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser, drink plenty of water to help keep your skin hydrated, avoid touching, scratching or rubbing the treated area unnecessarily. For the first 24–48 hours: Avoid hot baths, hot showers, saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs, avoid swimming pools and chlorinated water, avoid vigorous exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating, avoid direct sun exposure and always protect the treated area with a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50. Do not wax, thread, pluck or use depilatory creams as these remove the hair follicle needed for effective treatment, Shaving is permitted and recommended if hair removal is required between appointments, avoid exfoliating products, retinol, retinoids, AHAs, BHAs and other active skincare products on the treated area for 3–5 days. Continue to keep the skin moisturised and well hydrated. To achieve the best results: Attend all scheduled treatment sessions, protect the treated skin from sun exposure throughout your course of treatment, apply SPF 30–50 daily, even on cloudy days, maintain a healthy skincare routine to keep your skin in optimal condition. Your practitioner will be happy to advise you and arrange a review appointment if required.

Avoid direct sun exposure, sunbeds and self-tanning products for at least 2 weeks before your treatment. Recently tanned skin increases the risk of burns and pigmentation changes. Do not wax, thread, pluck, tweeze or use depilatory creams on the treatment area for 4 weeks before treatment, as the hair root must remain intact for the laser to be effective. Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment unless your practitioner has advised otherwise. The skin should be clean-shaven, but avoid shaving immediately before treatment if it causes irritation. Avoid using retinol, retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C serums and exfoliating products on the treatment area for 5–7 days before treatment. Avoid chemical peels, microneedling or other laser treatments on the treatment area for at least 2 weeks before your appointment. Arrive with clean skin, free from makeup, fake tan, moisturisers, deodorants, perfumes, oils or body lotions on the treatment area. Stay well hydrated before your appointment to support healthy skin function. Inform your practitioner if you are taking or have recently taken antibiotics, Roaccutane (Isotretinoin), steroids, photosensitising medications or herbal supplements that may increase light sensitivity. Please inform your practitioner of any changes to your medical history, medications, skin conditions or recent aesthetic treatments before your appointment. If you develop a cold sore, skin infection, sunburn, open wound or irritation within the treatment area before your appointment, please contact the clinic as your treatment may need to be postponed.

A patch test for laser treatments costs **£25**. The patch test fee is charged separately and **is not deducted from the cost of your treatment**. This appointment allows our practitioners to assess your skin type, review your medical history and safely determine the most appropriate treatment settings for your individual needs. Patch testing is an essential part of ensuring safe and effective laser treatment and must be completed before your first appointment. Patch tests carried out by another clinic cannot be accepted. For your safety, Body Perfection Clinic requires all clients to undergo a patch test performed by one of our practitioners before treatment.

Treatment is not suitable for clients with: Active cancer or those currently undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy, active shingles, active herpes simplex (cold sores) within the treatment area. Deep or unstable moles or suspected melanoma within the treatment area, areas with a history of keloid scarring or abnormal wound healing, port wine stains (unless specifically assessed for treatment). Treatment may require a GP letter or medical approval for clients with: Heart disease, polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), liver disease, kidney disease, haemangiomas (unless being specifically treated). Steroid therapy or hormonal therapy, thyroid hormone deficiency, controlled diabetes, AIDS or immunodeficiency disorders, previous gold injections, haemophilia or bleeding disorders. Hirsutism requires further assessment to determine the underlying cause and to establish realistic treatment expectations. Areas affected by burns or skin grafts should be avoided. Areas containing active cold sores, suspicious moles or keloid scars should not be treated.

For your Female IPL Hair Removal appointment, we recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area. Soft fabrics and loose-fitting garments will help minimise friction and ensure your comfort both during and after treatment. If you are having underarm treatment, a vest top or sleeveless top is ideal. For bikini or intimate area treatments, loose trousers, leggings or a skirt are recommended, along with comfortable underwear. For leg treatments, shorts, loose trousers or clothing that can be easily rolled up will make your appointment more convenient. Please avoid tight clothing, lace or fabrics that may rub against the treated area afterwards, as the skin may feel slightly warm or sensitive.
