It is also common to experience some redness, local swelling and mild tenderness. These symptoms may appear immediately or a few days after treatment. The use of Aloe Vera gel (100%) is recommended directly after treatment and for a further few days if necessary. An ice cold compress can be applied if the area feels hot or uncomfortable. A high SPF 30+ should be applied when outside for 4 weeks after. Excessive exposure can cause hypo or hyper pigmentation of the skin. For the next 48 hours minimum (after all treatments): Avoid all heat treatments such as steam rooms, saunas, hot baths, hot showers and excessive exercise. Avoid all perfumed creams, soaps and lotions on the treatment area (Until scabs have healed) Only use Aloe Vera gel. Do not touch pick or scratch the area else scarring may appear.

A patch test is conducted to make sure you have no reactions, we complete a through consultation and discuss medical conditions. We may ask for a doctors note before we go ahead with treatment. The number of treatments can range between 8-12 treatments, possibly more with men due to higher levels of testosterone. A 4 week interval between treatments is needed for recovery. We would recommend 8-12 treatments with a 4-8 week interval between each treatment.

Exfoliation with a body brush or mild scrub is recommended approximately two weeks after the treatment to encourage shedding

The heat from the IPL kills the hairs but the hair remain in the follicle and often become attached to the epidermis. These hairs shed / fall out in a 1-3 week period after the treatment. During this period it will seem that the hairs are growing as the epidermis is pushing them out.

For your consultation we need your hair to be approximately 2mm long, so we can access the area. It is advised to shave the area prior to treatment as this achieves the best results.

The treatment sensation varies from area to area and from client to client. As the light energy is absorbed by melanin, the sensation that is felt depends upon the amount of melanin found in the epidermis and the hairs. Therefore it hurts more darker skinned/tanned individuals and those with dense black hairs. Most clients describe the sensation as moderate almost like a snapping of an elastic band.

Clients with darker hair will find the treatment most effective due to the large concentration of melanin found in the hair, which will give optimal absorption of light energy and convert into heat. Clients with fair hair will find treatment less effective as there is little melanin found in the hair. Therefore less heat is produced giving us less certainty of destruction of the hair in the follicle.

The visible light source used in this procedure is attached to melanin, which is found in hair. Because there is more melanin found in darker hair the darker the hair is, the more effective the treatment. During the treatment an optical coupling gel is applied to the skin to aid the treatment. This helps to aid the light into the skin and to protect the skin from burning. The applicator is pressed onto the skin and the light energy is absorbed into the hair causing a heat reaction to destroy the follicle.
